Nebraska PE Continuing Education Requirements

Engineering Ethics Fundamentals for Professional Engineers (US-PE-ET-101) - 1.0 PDH

Nebraska professional engineers are required to complete 30 actual hours of engineering-related continuing education during each biennial renewal period. Continuing education must be technical in nature or part of the professional engineering body of knowledge as developed by applicable national professional engineering societies, and at least 1 hour must be directly related to ethical issues of professional practice. One actual hour means at least 50 minutes spent in a verifiable educational activity, and Nebraska grants a maximum of 10 hours in any calendar day. Nebraska does not pre-approve continuing education courses, so each licensee is responsible for selecting appropriate engineering-related education and maintaining documentation in case of audit. The Board retains final authority over whether a course or credit is accepted. Web-based courses may be used, but Nebraska places limits on certain self-guided or web-based offerings: web-based offerings from listed provider categories may constitute the full biennial requirement, while web-based offerings from other provider types may count for no more than 7.5 hours for professional engineers unless the course is instructor-led in real time and allows direct interaction. Licensees should retain records for four years, including a continuing education log and attendance verification such as certificates of completion, self-guided reporting forms, NCEES CPC Registry records, or similar documentation. Up to 15 hours of excess CE may be carried forward into the next biennial renewal period, and newly licensed engineers are exempt from CE requirements during their initial renewal period.
