Wisconsin PE Continuing Education Requirements
Wisconsin professional engineers are required to complete 30 professional development hours (PDHs) during each biennial renewal period.
The 30 PDHs must be pertinent to the practice of professional engineering and must include at least 2 PDHs in professional conduct and ethics.
Wisconsin also requires that at least 13 PDHs per biennium be completed through real-time interactive learning, such as a traditional classroom course, computer conference, or interactive video conference where participants are present at the same time, can communicate directly, and can ask questions of the instructor.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services states that courses, providers, and activities do not need to be pre-approved; however, each licensee is responsible for determining whether a course meets Wisconsin’s continuing education requirements, and the Professional Engineer Section retains final discretion if a course is reviewed. Licensees must maintain records of completed continuing education for the three most recent biennia and provide documentation if requested by the Department or Engineer Section.
Wisconsin’s biennium runs from August 1 of an even-numbered year through July 31 of the next even-numbered year, and the continuing education requirement does not apply to the biennium in which a license is first issued.
