North Dakota PE Continuing Education Requirements
Engineering Ethics Fundamentals for Professional Engineers (US-PE-ET-101) - 1.0 PDH
North Dakota professional engineers are required to complete 30 professional development hours (PDH) during each biennial renewal period as part of the state’s continuing professional competency requirements. At least 20 PDH must be in technical subjects that directly safeguard the public’s health, safety, and welfare, including qualifying technical professional management topics and technical engineering software training. Up to 10 PDH may be earned in nontechnical professional-related subjects, and at least 1 PDH must be in an ethics-oriented class. Qualifying activities should have a clear purpose and objective and should maintain, improve, or expand the engineer’s skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee’s field of practice. North Dakota does not preapprove courses, providers, or activities, so each licensee is responsible for selecting appropriate continuing education and maintaining documentation in case of audit. If audited, the Board makes the final determination of whether the activity qualifies and how much PDH credit is accepted. Licensees should keep records for at least four years from the date of the last biennial renewal, including a log showing the activity type, sponsoring organization, location, duration, date, instructor or speaker name, and PDH credits claimed, along with attendance verification such as certificates, attendance emails, or other supporting documentation. Up to 15 qualifying PDH may be carried forward into the next biennial renewal period.
