South Carolina PE Continuing Education Requirements

Looking for professional conduct and engineering ethics PDH for South Carolina license renewal? Our engineering ethics courses are designed to support professional judgment, public-protection obligations, responsible practice, and board-risk awareness.

South Carolina professional engineers are required to complete 30 professional development hours (PDH) during each biennial renewal period as part of the state’s Continuing Professional Competency requirements. The South Carolina PE renewal period runs from July 1 through June 30 of even-numbered years, and licenses expire on June 30 of even-numbered years unless renewed. Qualifying continuing education should have a clear purpose and objective and should maintain, improve, or expand the engineer’s skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee’s field of practice. PDH may be earned through continuing education courses, short courses, tutorials, webinars, distance-education courses, face-to-face programs, live internet-based programs, archived prerecorded programs, archived correspondence programs, teaching, published technical or professional work, active participation in professional or technical societies, and patents. South Carolina does not pre-approve courses, continuing education programs, or providers, so licensees are responsible for selecting appropriate activities and maintaining documentation in case of audit. The Board retains final authority over approval of courses, PDH credit, PDH value, and other methods of earning credit. Licensees should keep records for at least two renewal cycles, including a log of the activity, sponsoring organization, location, duration, instructor or speaker name, PDH credits earned, and attendance verification such as certificates of completion. Up to 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period, no more than 50% of claimed PDH may be in business or non-technical subject matter, and no more than 12 PDH may be obtained in one calendar day.
