Mississippi PE Continuing Education Requirements

Engineering Ethics Fundamentals for Professional Engineers (US-PE-ET-101) - 1.0 PDH

Mississippi professional engineers are required to complete continuing professional competency, or CPC, as a condition of license renewal. Professional engineers must complete 15 professional development hours (PDH) per calendar year, including 1 PDH in ethics during each biennial renewal period. Qualifying activities should have a clear purpose and objective and should maintain, improve, or expand the engineer’s knowledge and skills relevant to professional engineering practice. Mississippi recognizes a range of qualifying activities, including continuing education courses, short courses, tutorials, webinars, distance-education courses, live programs, archived prerecorded programs, and correspondence-style programs. The Mississippi Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Surveyors does not pre-approve PDHs, courses, or providers, so each licensee is responsible for selecting appropriate continuing education and maintaining documentation in case of audit. The Board retains final authority over whether a course, credit, PDH value, or other activity is accepted. Licensees should keep records such as a PDH log, course provider information, course duration, instructor or speaker name, PDH credits earned, and certificates or other attendance verification. Up to 15 PDH may be carried forward into the next year, but excess ethics PDH may not be carried forward, and no more than 8 PDH may be applied within a 24-hour period.
